Something I have learnt from working with spirit is that I need to enter a home with no expectations.

The problem with expectations is that they block spirit from communicating with us.  For example if you go to see a medium show, like the one led by someone like John Edwards, and you walk in with all of these expectations, you will almost always lower your chances of receiving a message.

But it it is human nature to wonder what is around the corner.  So when I started working as a Paranormal Investigator, I would drive to an address, trying to imagine what I would see and feel.  I mentioned in a previous blog that I like to tune in to a property and its occupants first, so I try to eliminate some of the surprises.

Each time I would get inside the house, I would sense there was something around but struggled to get clear messages.  What was going on?  I really wanted to help these people.  Finally I heard the “expectations” theory and thought maybe there’s something in it.  So on my next investigation I simply asked my angels to guide me and that was it.  And things definitely got easier from this point on.

I guess what I want whoever reads this to know is that when we lose someone close to us, for example, it is important to welcome any communication from the afterlife if it comes, but it’s best not to expect or demand it.  Also you may need to use all of your senses.  Years ago my mum lost her mum.  I was sitting upstairs a couple of days after the funeral and mum raced up the stairs and asked why I was spraying grandma’s perfume around.  I explained that it wasn’t me.  So she went back downstairs but was back up after a couple of minutes asking the same question.  This time I could smell it too.  We both figured this was grandma saying goodbye.

So make sure you pay attention, and expect the unexpected.
