Ernst train tunnel was part of the old Brisbane to Gold Coast railway line otherwise known as The South Coast Railway. It was demolished in the early 60’s. Remnants of the train line are still evident even today, with the Ernst Tunnel being the most famous and popular. From several stories we have heard the more popular stories seem to revolve around a homeless man who was stabbed and killed while squatting in the tunnel one night who haunts it to this day and the other revolves around a little boy who haunts the tunnel that people have said they have witnessed.
We have done several investigations of the tunnel and in our research we found a link that may better explain the story of the boy. Upon looking through an old country paper we found an article relating to the train tunnel and the boy who may haunt the location. The article explained that when the rail line was used a boy and his mother were heading to Brisbane and upon going through the tunnel the boy became extremely frightened, screaming and not able be pacified he broke into convulsions similar to an epileptic fit. While we have not been able to find much more relating to a boy and the tunnel it was interesting to see where one of the stories may have come from.
Upon investigating the site we have found various graffiti and items used in satanic rituals, be it kids playing around or something more sinister we cannot be sure but at this point we have not been able to find any solid evidence to prove any story relating to the tunnel nor have we found any substantial proof of a true haunting.
At this stage we believe that there may be something more to the tunnel, with what photographic and other evidence we have gathered, but further investigation is needed to come to a firm conclusion.
